Pipe Bursting Services

Zanetto Civil can use a pipe bursting to replace or upsize pipes efficiently.

Utilities such as water, sewer, gas pipes often need replacing, with most located in urban areas, under buildings, roads, driveways and gardens, and are often surrounded by other services. Replacement is often not viable with traditional trenching methods.

To burst the pipe, a steel bursting head is driven by a pneumatic hammer, which is run by an air compressor. The hammer is inside the host pipe, and attached to the front of the hammer is a 14 tonne winch with variable load ratings depending on pipe size and length. The bursting head splits the host pipe and the expander displaces the fragmented host pipe and compacts the surrounding soil while the new pipe is pulled in simultaneously.

Zanetto Civil offers butt welding for HDPE piping using a fusion welder.

Two pipe pieces are held by a clamping device, and once clamped, the ends are ‘faced’ with a machining tool to establish a clean and parallel mating surface, perpendicular to the centreline of each pipe.

A heating plate is inserted between the faced ends, and the pipes are drawn together against it, which forms a melt pattern that penetrates into both pipe ends. Once the correct temperature is reached, the heating plate is quickly removed, and the heated ends are carefully moved together with a specific amount of force. This force must be continuous and held until the new joint cools and solidifies.

Zanetto Civil can provide bed boring services with rigid drilling rods for a range of utilities.

This method is used in tight ground conditions, as the rods do not vary from their path. Although the rods are rigid, they can be steered a small amount to change the alignment or grade to manoeuvre around.

Bed boring allows for under-road boring up to 35m in length, and accommodating pipe sizes of up to 150mm in sewer, stormwater, irrigation and communications systems. Greater hole diameter/s can be achieved in shorter lengths.
