Newnham Creek Remediation
Location: NEWNHAM
Value: $2M
The existing Newnham Creek was located immediately adjacent to property boundaries, and the eroding banks had the potential to cause damage to fence lines and properties.
The City of Launceston engaged Zanetto Civil to perform remediation works to upgrade the creek to protect adjoining properties from erosion.
The works included construction of a 60m long precast concrete retaining wall which involved excavation depths of up to 2.7m with separations from adjacent properties of approximately 2m.
A massbloc retaining wall was also constructed opposite the precast concrete retaining wall.
Downstream of the retaining walls, Newnham Creek was realigned away from property boundaries. A total of 350m of creek was remediated. Significant sewer and stormwater pipeworks were also performed.
The remediation works were performed in a live creek.
Zanetto Civil contributed design changes which rectified defects in the original design.
Zanetto Civil would like to thank the City of Launceston for the opportunity and combined effort which resulted in the successful completion of this project.
